Foodies: well, it looks like Healdsburg made another top list this week. Conde Nast Traveler online ranked America's Best Food Cities, and we came in at #9. Come see why! Must be the fresh, local farm-to-table produce, meats - and our award-winning local wines.

Our Saturday Farmers’ Market opens May 3rd. We are happy to have this great market back for the season. Most of the farms represented are within a 10-mile radius of Healdsburg. Besides all the wonderful produce and goods, there is also a “Chef's Market” feature where you can shop with a local chef and enjoy a cooking demonstration. Next ones are on May 10th and June 14th.

For those interested in more “DIY” adventures, we have some fun shops that offer unique courses. Dragonfly Floral on Westside Road offers wreath-making and floral design classes. Join them for a Mother's Day Floral & Garden Arrangement on May 8th, Parisian Influence in Flowers on May 21st or Design Your Own Wedding Flowers, May 24th. http://www.dragonflyhealdsburg.com

For knitting fans, Purls of Joy has a wide selection of yarn and a number of classes: beginning knitting and crochet, lace knitting, felted items, hats, scarves, baby items and clothing. http://www.purlsofjoy.com

SeaHoney off the Plaza has an array of fun, quirky, eclectic items. They offer classes ranging from collage assemblage to jewelry making.

Relish Culinary serves up delicious classes. Sign up for the Wood-Fired "Maker" Dinner on May 17th, or the Two-Day Cheese Making Workshop (hands-on) on May30th. See their website for full class schedule. http://www.relishculinary.com/

There are still rooms available at the Inn for the Jazz Festival, May 30th to June 8th. http://www.healdsburgjazzfestival.org Call us for room reservations: 707-433-8182.

Recipe~

In celebration of Opening Day of Farmers’ Market (from “Season by Season – The Sonoma County Farmers Market Cookbook,” 1988)

Tiny New Potatoes with Fresh Herbs

Small new potatoes – enough to go around
2-3 Tblsp. butter
Fresh chopped thyme, chives, rosemary and basil
2 Tbls. Water or wine

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Wrap potatoes in a double thickness of aluminum foil with the butter, a sprinkling of each seasoning and enough water or wine to keep the butter from burning (about 2 Tblsp.). Seal the packages by folding the foil seams over several times.

Bake for about 45 minutes.
