September 6, 2014 - Now in Healdsburg
Charge it! Did you know that Camellia Inn has an electric car charger? Yes, we do – and it’s ready anytime you want to plug in.
When is a red chair NOT just a red chair? When it is a nation-wide Bed and Breakfast celebrity. The Red Chair phenomena began its life in 2012, when innkeeper Beth Colt of Woods Hole Inn, MA on Cape Cod took a snapshot of her simple red chair, perched on the ice behind her house. She posted the photo on Facebook and the “likes” added up. A photographer from Santa Barbara noticed, traveled to the East Coast and took a second photo of the Red Chair on a beach. This inspired Colt to send the chair on a sojourn throughout New England. Branching out across America, the Red Chair is now traveling to Sonoma County. Seven local inns are hosting the Red Chair in October and November – and will be taking good care of their guest! The Camellia Inn will display the Red Chair November 11th-16th. Where will it appear in Healdsburg -- can you guess? As owner Beth Colt says, “It’s a barn-raising of sorts; the sharing of a piece of Americana.” You can see photos of the Chair and follow its travels on the blog http://www.redchairtravels.com/blog.html
Ray Lewand’s home-made salsa is a big hit here at the Inn. He uses fresh heirloom tomatoes and peppers from his yard – add in some onions and it’s his version of salsa…Sonoma County style.
Ray’s Sonoma County Salsa:
3 large heirloom tomatoes, chopped
¼ cup red or mild white onions, chopped
1 mild “banana” pepper, chopped*
Salt & pepper to taste
Mix and serve with chips or as a side with chicken or fish. Also good over scrambled eggs.
* Also known as a wax pepper.
